Because Basildon was planned, so was its industry. The estates along Cranes Farm Road and at Burnt Mills to the north of the centre were laid out with the new town, and they are still where most of the commercial clearance work is: units changing tenant, warehouses being emptied, offices at the front of an industrial building being stripped out.
