Loose material is the thing that catches people out

Most Billericay clear-outs are a garage, a garden or a loft, and most of what comes out of them is loose: bags, boxes, offcuts, broken bits of furniture, tins, a pile of old fencing. It is rarely five identifiable objects. That is exactly the shape the council's service handles worst, because it will not take loose material at all, and anything small has to be bagged or bundled first, with every bag counting as one of your five items.

Add the rule that a single item has to be liftable on to the vehicle by no more than two workers and the picture is clear. The council's collection is designed for a sofa and a fridge on a pavement. A garage that has not been emptied since 2004 is a load, and it wants a vehicle rather than a booking.

  • A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
  • You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
  • The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
  • It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.

Rubbish removal in Billericay is this same job

Rubbish removal, rubbish clearance and waste clearance are three names for one thing here: a garage or a garden full of loose material that has to leave in one go. The same vehicle and the same published list, so it gets a single page.

What waste clearance in Billericay takes in

The jobs this covers in Billericay, most of them loose rather than countable.

Get a price for this
  • Garage clearance. Front to back, down to a swept floor and bare blockwork. It is the job we get called out to in Billericay more than any other.
  • Garden clearance. Hedge cuttings, turf, brash and the old fence panels that come down with them. The gardens here step and terrace, so the carry is usually longer than it looks from the road.
  • Builders waste clearance. Plasterboard, timber, packaging and rubble coming off an extension or a kitchen refit. Pitsea takes limited DIY waste from your own household but nothing from a tradesperson who worked at your address.
  • Fly-tip clearance. Waste dumped on a verge, a service road or a field gateway on the lanes towards the Bursteads.
  • Wait and load service. Loaded in the one stop and taken away with us. On a stepped Billericay frontage that saves everything being brought down to the pavement twice.
  • Hazardous waste clearance. A Billericay garage nearly always holds something that cannot travel with general waste. Tell us what is in the garage before the day and you get a straight yes or no.
  • Warehouse clearance and rip out. Lock-ups and stores emptied and stripped back, racking and fittings included.
  • Shop clearance and rip out. Shop fits stripped out along the High Street and the parades, ready for the keys to go back.

Pitsea will book a van in, which most sites near here will not

Pitsea Recycling Centre on Pitsea Hall Lane is the nearest Essex site and it is one of the more useful ones. It accepts limited DIY waste providing it came from your own household, and it does accept bookings for vans, pick-ups and large trailers, which Mountnessing, Chigwell and Waltham Abbey all refuse. It is open every day of the year bar the Christmas closures.

The two limits still apply and they are the ones that matter. Every visit needs its own booked slot, and Essex sites take household waste only, which rules out anything a builder, a gardener or a fitter produced while working at your house even though it is physically your waste.

The council's collection is £30 for up to five items with no discount for fewer, nothing collected from inside a house, flat, garage or shed, no loose material, and only what two people can lift. Against that, a published load price with the figure in writing beforehand is usually the shorter conversation.

Questions we get asked about this

Ask us something else
It is mostly bags and boxes rather than furniture.

That is the load the council's service handles worst and ours handles normally. Send a photo and you get a load size and a figure back.

Will you take builders waste from work done at my house?

Yes. That is the load Pitsea will not take from you even though it is your waste, which is why people ring us about it.

Would a skip be cheaper?

Over a long refit with a drive to stand it on, occasionally. For a single clear-out it rarely does, because the hire is charged for every day it stands there and the lifting is still yours.
