Redbridge classes building and DIY material as 'restricted waste', makes you book a visit to bring any of it, and caps each household at 1,000kg in a rolling twelve months. Spend the allowance in November and you are waiting until the following November for the next one.

Chigwell Road at Woodford Bridge is Redbridge's recycling centre and its vehicle rules rule out most of what anybody would actually hire. Nothing over 3,500kg gets on the site. No Luton van, and no van with a tail lift or a tipper, can enter at all. If you turn up in a van you are asked for the V5C logbook to prove the weight, and there are number plate recognition cameras there specifically to stop builders and other people bringing commercial waste in.
On top of that, any building or DIY material is 'restricted waste': it needs a booked visit, and the household allowance is 1,000kg in a rolling year. The council's bulky collection is no help either, because it does not take building or DIY waste at all, and beyond the one free three-item collection a year it is £15.20 an item.
So for anything heavier than furniture in this borough, a company with a vehicle and a transfer station is not the expensive option, it is usually the only one. We price off a published load list, show the £12.50 zone line on its own, and put the whole figure in writing before you are booked in.
