One site, shut Mondays, and a permit as well as an appointment

Barrowell Green on Barrowell Green, N21 3AU, is the only recycling centre in the borough. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm, and closed every Monday. You must book an appointment to enter the site by vehicle at all, and if you are driving a van, towing a trailer or in a pick-up you need a valid permit as well as the appointment. Number plate recognition and cameras run on the site. On foot, you need neither.

That is a lot of process for a load of rubble, and the free collection is no help because bricks, building material, rubble and soil are all on its not-collected list along with garden waste, glass panels, windows and patio doors. Anything with a plug is off the free service too and priced at £54 for a single item.

So the practical route for a real load here is a vehicle and a transfer station. We price it off a published load list, show the £12.50 zone line separately, and give you the whole figure in writing before booking you in.
