Hertford has no tip of its own, and the council collection is capped at six items
Hertford is the county town and it does not have a recycling centre of its own. The nearest Hertfordshire County Council site is Ware, on Westmill Road, SG12 0ES, open 10am to 5.30pm seven days a week, and you cannot simply turn up: every visit needs a free ePass tied to the car's registration and the address, a van or a trailer needs its own pass, a hire van is capped at three visits, and trade waste is turned away at the gate. For the flats above the shops in the centre that is the whole problem in one paragraph, because a first-floor clearance does not go in a car, and a landlord's or an agent's waste is trade waste the moment somebody is paid to move it. East Herts Council's own bulky collection is the other route and it is worth reading the small print before you count on it. From April 2026 it is £61.20 for up to three soft-furnished items or up to three that are not, £17.00 for each further item of the same kind, and never more than six items in one collection. Sofas and mattresses cannot go in the same booking as a fridge or a wardrobe, because the rules on upholstered items now keep them apart, so a flat with both is two bookings and two fees. Everything has to be out at the front of the property by 6.30am on the day, and the crew will not come inside under any circumstances, which for a second-floor flat above a shop on Fore Street means somebody carrying it all down first. A unit stripped between tenants is over the six-item cap before the first partition is out. That is the gap this page exists for: one price for the whole load, carried down the stairs by us, gone the same visit.
