What gets cleared in Braintree, and where it is sitting

A market town with terraced streets close in and estates around them produces two different piles. On the estates it is garden waste, a garage that has filled up over twenty years, and bulky single items. Closer in it is builders waste off a property being done up to let.

Where it is sitting decides the price more than what it is. A pile on a drive is a straight load out. The same pile down the side of a terrace with no rear access is a carry-out to the road, and that is most of the older streets here.

There is one price list and Braintree is on it. Send a photograph of what needs shifting on WhatsApp and you get the load size and the figure back, rather than being asked to guess it yourself.

Three fields, all short. It comes straight to us and we come back to you with a written price. Nothing is shared with anyone else.

Or price it yourself, right now

  • A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
  • You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
  • The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
  • It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.

Rubbish removal in Braintree is this same job

People search for rubbish removal, rubbish clearance and waste clearance and mean one thing: a pile that needs to be gone. It is the same job, the same vehicle and the same price list whichever you call it, so there is one page for it here rather than three competing with each other.

What waste clearance in Braintree takes in

The jobs this covers in Braintree, and what each one means here rather than in general.

Get a price for this
  • Garage clearance. Front to back, down to a swept floor and bare walls. On the estate plots that is usually twenty years of tools, timber and boxes.
  • Garden clearance. Green waste, hedge cuttings, turf and whatever has been stacked down the side. The town-centre gardens run long and narrow, so it is a barrow route out to the road.
  • Builders waste clearance. Plasterboard, timber, packaging and rubble off an extension or a refit. Steady work here, because so much of the older stock is being done up.
  • Fly-tip clearance. Waste dumped on a verge, a parking area or an access road, lifted and the surface swept back.
  • Wait and load service. The van waits, we load it, and it goes on the same visit. It is the alternative to a skip sitting on your drive for a week, or to needing a permit to put one on the road.
  • Hazardous waste clearance. Some of what comes out of a garage or a shed cannot go in with general waste. Tell us what it is before the day and we will tell you straight whether we can take it and what it changes.
  • Warehouse clearance and rip out. Warehouses emptied and ripped out: racking, mezzanine, fittings and whatever the last tenant left behind.
  • Shop clearance and rip out. Shop fits stripped out and cleared, counters, shelving and signage included, ready to hand the unit back.

The tip on Springwood Drive, and exactly where it stops

Braintree Recycling Centre is on Springwood Drive, CM7 2YN, run by Essex County Council. Unlike some Essex sites this one does take vans, pick-ups and large trailers and you can book one in. It opens 9am to 5pm from 1 March to 15 October, and 9am to 4pm from 16 October to 28 February.

Two things catch people out. A slot has to be booked unless you are a Blue Badge holder, on foot or on a bike. And it is household waste only: waste from a business is not accepted at any Essex recycling centre, and neither is waste a tradesperson produced doing work at your house.

So the plasterboard off your own bathroom is fine if you pulled it off yourself, and an identical pile is not if a fitter did. That is the honest reason to ring somebody rather than borrow a van: not that the tip is hard to use, but that a good half of what comes out of a refit is not allowed through the gate.

Questions we get asked about this

Ask us something else
Can I not just take it to Springwood Drive myself?

For your own household waste, yes, and you can book a van in. Not for anything a tradesperson produced at your house, and not for business waste. That is the line that catches people out at the gate.

Do you charge more when there is no rear access?

No. The carry-out is part of the job and it is inside the load price you are quoted. What moves the price is how much there is, not how far we walk with it.

Is rubbish removal something different from waste clearance?

No. Two names for one job, and this is the page for both of them.
