Seven days a week, and the one rule that still bites
The tip on Tewin Road is open seven days a week, 10am to 5.30pm, all year, which is more generous than most sites in either county. There is no slot to book. You register for a free ePass, a camera reads the plate on the way in, and you go when it suits you.
The rule that still bites is what counts as household. Waste from a business, a charity or any other organisation is not accepted, DIY and home improvement waste is taken in limited amounts only, and the van and trailer ePass is one per household and Hertfordshire residents only.
So a garage clear-out is fine and a refit usually is not, and neither is anything from the unit down the road. That distinction, rather than the opening hours, is what decides whether somebody needs us.

The tip is open seven days. Why would I use you?
For a few bags, you would not, and we will say so. For a garage, a garden or a refit it is a question of how many trips you want to make and whether they would take it at all.
Can you load off the drive without me being there?
Once we have agreed what is going, yes. We send the figure first and sweep up before we leave.
Is DIY waste a problem?
At the tip it can be, because it is only accepted in limited amounts. For us it is an ordinary load.
