What fills up in a planned town
The estates east of the railway were built with storage in mind, which means there is somewhere for things to accumulate and they have been accumulating since the 1950s. Garages, stores and sheds are where most of the volume comes from here, alongside the garden waste off plots that were laid out generously.
Access is rarely the problem in this town, which is unusual on our patch. There are proper roads and somewhere to put a vehicle. What that means in practice is that the quote comes down almost entirely to how much there is, which is why a photograph gets you a firm figure here faster than anywhere else we work.

- A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
- You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
- The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
- It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.
Rubbish removal in Welwyn Garden City is the same job
Rubbish removal, rubbish clearance and waste clearance all point at one thing: a pile that needs to be gone. Same vehicle, same published price list, so there is one page for it rather than three.
What waste clearance in Welwyn Garden City takes in
The jobs this covers here, and what each means locally.
- Garage clearance. Front to back, to a swept floor and bare walls. On these estates the garage is usually the biggest single part of a clear-out.
- Garden clearance. Green waste, hedge cuttings and turf off plots that were laid out with room in them.
- Builders waste clearance. Plasterboard, timber, packaging and rubble off a refit, loaded off a drive rather than barrowed through a house.
- Fly-tip clearance. Waste dumped on an access road, a verge or a shared parking area, lifted and the surface swept back.
- Wait and load service. The van waits, we load it, and it leaves on the same visit rather than a skip standing on the drive for a week.
- Hazardous waste clearance. Some of what comes out of a garage that has been shut since the 1970s cannot travel with general waste. Tell us what it is and you get a straight answer.
- Warehouse clearance and rip out. Warehouses on Tewin Road and Mundells emptied and ripped out, racking and fittings included.
- Shop clearance and rip out. Shop fits stripped and cleared, ready to hand the unit back.
Seven days a week, and the one rule that still bites
The tip on Tewin Road is open seven days a week, 10am to 6pm, all year, which is more generous than most sites in either county. There is no slot to book. You register for a free ePass, a camera reads the plate on the way in, and you go when it suits you.
The rule that still bites is what counts as household. Waste from a business, a charity or any other organisation is not accepted, DIY and home improvement waste is taken in limited amounts only, and the van and trailer ePass is one per household and Hertfordshire residents only.
So a garage clear-out is fine and a refit usually is not, and neither is anything from the unit down the road. That distinction, rather than the opening hours, is what decides whether somebody needs us.

Questions we get asked about this
The tip is open seven days. Why would I use you?
For a few bags, you would not, and we will say so. For a garage, a garden or a refit it is a question of how many trips you want to make and whether they would take it at all.
Can you load off the drive without me being there?
Once we have agreed what is going, yes. We send the figure first and sweep up before we leave.
Is DIY waste a problem?
At the tip it can be, because it is only accepted in limited amounts. For us it is an ordinary load.
