Chelmsford's commercial fabric, and what comes out of it
The industrial side of Chelmsford sits on Widford Industrial Estate off Rodney Way and Robjohns Road, on Dukes Park, and on the newer office space at Springfield Business Park and Chelmsford Business Park, which runs to about forty acres close to the A12. Those are loading door and yard jobs, and they are the straightforward half.
The other half is the city centre: offices over shops, and units on streets where the kerb has a loading restriction on it. There the work is a carry-down to a vehicle that cannot sit there all day, which is why most of it happens before the shops open or after they shut.

Tick off what you have got and it works out the load size and the price. It is an indication and we confirm it before anything is booked.

- A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
- You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
- The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
- It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.
What office clearance in Chelmsford takes in
What a commercial job here usually is, and where each stops.
- Soft strip out. Back to shell. Partitions, ceiling grid, floor boxes, fitted kitchens and storage out, floor swept end to end for whoever fits out next.
- Renovation clearance. Taken away as the work runs rather than after it, so the old fit is not stacked in the car park for a fortnight.
- Outbuilding clearance and demolition. A derelict garage or outbuilding taken down and cleared. The structure itself coming down is a different job from emptying one, and it is priced differently.
- Construction site clearance and strip out. Cleared while a build runs and stripped before one starts. Hoarding, access and whether it has to be out of hours are the first things we ask about.
- Land clearing. Plots, yards and access ways cleared of whatever has been dumped or grown over them, and left flat and usable.
Why a Chelmsford business has fewer options than a resident
The city council's large item collection is for residential addresses. A business cannot book it, and is pointed at a trade collection instead. That is stated plainly on the council's own page and it surprises people who assume the £31 first-item price applies to their unit.
The recycling centre is not the fallback either. Business, trade and commercial waste is not accepted at any Essex County Council recycling centre, Drovers Way included. So the household route that works for somebody clearing a spare room is closed to the unit next door to them.
What is left is a transfer station, which is where this work goes. It is loaded, taken away and disposed of, and what can be recycled is recycled.

Questions we get asked about this
Can you work evenings or weekends in the city centre?
That is usually the only way a job on a restricted kerb happens at all. Tell us the window and the quote covers that window.
Do you take the partitions and ceiling grid too?
Yes. A soft strip is the fittings coming out and going in the same job, not a clearance booked afterwards.
We are a business. Can we use the council collection instead?
No. That service is for residential addresses only, and business waste is refused at the recycling centres as well. Commercial clearance goes to a transfer station.
