Colchester's commercial fabric, and what each part demands

Severalls Industrial Park is 195 acres sitting directly on the A12 and A120 interchange, and Whitehall Industrial Estate with Grange Way Business Park is about two miles south east in the Hythe regeneration area. Colchester Business Park adds roughly 35 acres of offices. All of those are loading door and yard work, and a vehicle can get to the door.

Inside the walls it is a different trade entirely. Offices over shops, units on streets inside a conservation area designated in 1968, and a kerb you cannot occupy in the middle of the day. That work happens early or late, and the strip out is planned around when a vehicle is allowed to be there at all.

Or send a photo, which is quicker

  • A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
  • You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
  • The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
  • It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.

What office clearance in Colchester takes in

What a commercial job here usually is, and where each stops.

Get a price for this
  • Soft strip out. Back to shell. Partitions, ceiling grid, floor boxes, fitted kitchens and storage out, floor swept end to end.
  • Renovation clearance. Taken away as the work runs rather than after it, which matters on a site with nowhere to stack anything.
  • Outbuilding clearance and demolition. A derelict garage or outbuilding taken down and cleared. The structure coming down is a different job from emptying one.
  • Construction site clearance and strip out. Cleared while a build runs and stripped before one starts. Access, hoarding and out of hours are the first three questions.
  • Land clearing. Plots, yards and access ways cleared of what has been dumped or grown over them, and left flat and usable.

There is no council route for a commercial clearance here

The city council's special collection is a household service. A business cannot use it for a unit, and the recycling centre is not an alternative either: business, trade and commercial waste is not accepted at any Essex County Council site, Shrub End Road included.

That is worth saying plainly, because it is the thing small businesses discover at the gate with a van already loaded. There is no cheap public option for commercial waste in Essex. What there is, is a transfer station, and that is where this work goes.

It is loaded, taken away and disposed of, and what can be recycled is recycled. You get the load size and the figure in writing before it starts.

Questions we get asked about this

Ask us something else
Can you work out of hours inside the town centre?

Usually that is the only way it happens, because of when a vehicle can stand there. Give us the window and the quote covers it.

Is a unit on Severalls easier than one in town?

Considerably, and it is priced on the work rather than on the postcode. A loading door and a yard take hours off the same job.

We are a business. Is there any council collection we can use?

Not for commercial waste. The household services are closed to you and the recycling centres refuse trade waste, which is why it goes to a transfer station.
