What Uttlesford charges, and the rule about sofas
Uttlesford District Council collects bulky household items and publishes the figures. For 2026/27 it is £55.00 for the first three items such as bathroom fittings, carpets and doors, then £8.50 for each extra item booked at the same time. Electrical items are £55.00 for the first and £8.50 for each one after.
Upholstered seating is priced on its own, and it is worth knowing why. Sofas and other domestic seating containing persistent organic pollutants cost £63.50 for the first item and £16.00 for each additional one, because that material has to be kept apart from everything else rather than tipped in with it. It is the reason a three-piece suite is never the cheap part of a clearance, with them or with anybody.
The tip on Thaxted Road, CB10 2SG, is the other route. Household waste only, and a slot has to be booked unless you are a Blue Badge holder, on foot or on a bike.

It changes how, not whether. Nothing is dragged, nothing is forced through a doorway, and furniture comes apart rather than take a chunk out of a frame. It is slower and we price it that way rather than rush it.
Can you get a vehicle down Castle Street?
Usually only a small one, and sometimes not at all, so it becomes a carry to wherever we can legally stand. Tell us the address and we will say before the day rather than on it.
Do you take the three-piece suite?
Yes. Upholstered seating has to be kept separate from the rest of the load on the way out, which is the same reason the council prices it on its own.
