Waste Clearance Across Hertfordshire
Household and commercial waste cleared across Hertfordshire, in any of the ten districts. One item or a full load, and the price is written down before the job.
An ePass, not a booking, and what that changes
Hertfordshire and Essex sit against each other and run opposite systems, which catches people out constantly along the border. In Essex you book a slot for every visit unless you are a Blue Badge holder, on foot or on a bike. In Hertfordshire you book nothing. You register once for a free ePass, a camera reads your plate on the way in, and staff log the visit.
The catch is in the allowance rather than the queue. A household gets three ePasses, and only one of those can be for a van and trailer. That single van pass is the whole of a household's capacity for anything that will not go in a car, and it is for Hertfordshire residents only, which matters if you live one side of the line and work the other.

- A photo tells us the load size straight away, so you get a real price instead of a range.
- You are not asked to guess whether it is a half load or a full one. That is our job.
- The price you are given is the price you pay, and it covers the labour and the disposal.
- It goes straight to us, not to a call centre, and we are the ones who come back to you.
Rubbish removal across Hertfordshire is the same job
Rubbish removal, rubbish clearance and waste clearance all describe one thing: a pile that has to go. Same vehicle, same published price list, wherever in the county it is sitting.
What waste clearance in Hertfordshire takes in
What this covers across the county.
- Garage clearance. Garages and stores emptied front to back, down to a swept floor.
- Garden clearance. Green waste, hedge cuttings and turf.
- Builders waste clearance. Plasterboard, timber, packaging and rubble from a refit or an extension. No recycling centre in the county will take it from a builder, which is what brings most of these calls in.
- Fly-tip clearance. Fly-tipped waste lifted off verges, access roads and parking areas.
- Wait and load service. The van waits, we load it, and it leaves on the same visit.
- Hazardous waste clearance. Some of what comes out of a garage or a shed cannot be loaded in with general waste. Tell us what it is beforehand and we will say whether we can take it.
- Warehouse clearance and rip out. Warehouses anywhere in the county emptied and stripped, racking and fittings taken out with everything else.
- Shop clearance and rip out. Shop and unit fits stripped out anywhere in the county, ready to hand back to the landlord.
The rule that applies at all sixteen of them
Whichever of the county's sixteen recycling centres you use, two rules do not move. Waste from a business, a charity or any other organisation is not accepted at any of them. And DIY and home improvement waste is accepted in limited amounts only, which is the one that decides most refits.
The practical version: waste you generated yourself, in ordinary quantities, is fine. Waste a tradesperson generated at your address is theirs to deal with and is not household waste, whatever it looks like in the back of the car. That is not a Hertfordshire rule, it is the same everywhere on our patch, and it is the single most common reason somebody rings us.
So the honest answer is that for a few bags the tip is free and you should use it. For a refit, a garage or anything a trade produced, it was never going to be an option.

Questions we get asked about this
Is an ePass the same as an Essex booking?
No, and it is the opposite way round. Hertfordshire gives you a pass and no booking. Essex takes a booking and no pass.
Can I use a Hertfordshire tip if I live in Essex?
With a car, at four sites near the border, and you need a free ePass of your own as well as proof of address. The van and trailer ePass is for Hertfordshire residents only.
Will they take my bathroom rip-out?
In limited amounts if you did it yourself. Not at all if a tradesperson did it, because then it is not household waste.
