The catch is the booking and the rules. A slot has to be booked for every single visit unless you arrive on foot, on a bike or with a Blue Badge, and it is free either online or on 0345 743 0430 between 8.30am and 5pm. Essex sites take household waste only, and that excludes anything a builder, a gardener or a fitter produced while working at your address, even though the waste is physically yours.
So the comparison worth making before you ring anybody, us included, is not the gate fee, because there is not one. It is the van, the slot, the drive and the number of times you would have to do it.
